CORE VALUES
The Word:
The Word of God must be the
authority of all people who call themselves “Christian”.
The Bible gives us the truth about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit,
about sin and the state of
human life. The Bible gives us God’s plan for a lost and
helpless people. Salvation
comes by no one else other than Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us
how we can live a victorious
Christian life.
Psalms 119:11
“I have
hidden your word in my heart That I might not sin against
you.” NIV
Prayer:
Prayer is sometimes overlooked in the Christian life. We all
know we need to pray.
We also know how little we really do pray. It has been said
that pastors spend
about 8 minutes a day in prayer and laymen spend on average
5 minutes a day in prayer.
That needs to change. Jesus was our example in prayer and he
prayed all night sometimes.
We know that when we work, we work, but when we pray, God
works. Therefore, we
are committed to making Southside a house of prayer.
Luke 19:45-46
"Then he
(Jesus) entered the temple area and began driving out those
who were selling. 'It is written,' he said to them, 'My house will be a house of prayer; but
you have made it a den of robbers.' " NIV
Worship:
Today worship is talked about a lot. Mostly the talk centers
around music,
but we know that worship is the act of giving ourselves to God. We
value true worship because
in this world we can give ourselves to many different
persons or causes, but the greatest
act of worship is when we present our lives to God in
worship.
Romans 12:1
“Therefore,
I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your
bodies as living sacrifices,
holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of
worship.” NIV
Evangelism:
Evangelism is part of the Great Commission.
We desire to see all people come to
repentance and to know Jesus Christ as their
personal Savior. We work to share the Good
News here in Minot and through the Church
of the Nazarene around the world.
Matthew
28:19-20
Therefore
go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of
the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I
have commanded you.
And surely I am with you always, to the very end
of the age." NIV
Fellowship:
Fellowship is not just
a potluck. Fellowship is a deep connectedness that
comes first
by knowing Christ, then by joining the body of Christ.
We cannot just be spiritual
hitchhikers - never buying the car, or paying for gas, or
even offering to change the
oil or put air in the tires. Hitchhikers are just
along for the ride and only on their terms.
Hitchhikers are their just along for the ride and never invest
themselves. As Christians we
need to invest ourselves in each other. True
fellowship is living in accountable
relationships with one another.
Galatians 3:26-28
"You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for
all of you who were
baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free,
male or female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
NIV
Discipleship:
Training is a big part of preparing to go
out and live a life as a Christian. We need to
know what the Word of God says and follow it. A
disciple is one who disciplines his
life to live out Christ-likeness on purpose.
Without good discipleship, we are in
danger of raising up Christian pagans - people who just say
a prayer and do whatever
they please. Disciples of Christ discipline themselves
to follow Christ in every way.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
"Do you not know that in a race all the runners
run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who
competes in the games goes into strict training.
They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it
to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore
I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight
like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body
and make it my slave so that after I have preached to
others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize."
NIV
Holiness:
Holiness is humbly
giving yourself 100% to Christ. Holiness demands
complete
brokenness and humility of heart, knowing that in myself
there is no strength to
be Christ-like. Holiness involves asking God to fill
us with His Holy Spirit to give
us the guidance and strength to live above sin in a
victorious life. Holiness is
also living in the world, but not loving the world. We
are to love God and others
with all of our hearts.
Hebrews 12:14
"Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be
holy; without holiness
no one will see the Lord."
NIV
Service:
We believe that each one of us is a unique
creation. We were created by God
to accomplish works
that bring glory to Him. Each one of us has gifts that
we have
been given to use to build up the body of believers.
We therefore are not born again
just to sit in a church and
sing a hymn, but to serve one another in love. We are
also
to use our gifts and abilities to reach out to others
--- an unsaved relative or friend
and even those who we would consider our enemies.
Ephesians 4:15-16
"Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things
grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.
From him the whole body, joined and held together by every
supporting ligament,
grows and builds itself up in love, as
each part does its work." NIV
